Update on Sydney teacher accused of sex acts with students

A teacher who allegedly engaged in sex acts with two students has fronted court more than a month after police laid new charges.

A female teacher who is accused of engaging in sex acts with two students allegedly propositioned one of the teenagers inside a Sydney school, according to court documents.

Tayla Brailey, 30, fronted court on Wednesday, flanked by supporters and more than six weeks after police laid fresh charges.

She was in August arrested at a school after police launched an investigation into allegations a 17-year-old boy had been sexually touched by a female teacher.

The Wollongong woman was taken to Liverpool Police Station where she was charged with sexual intercourse with a person between 17 and 18 under special care.

She was also charged with sexually touching a person between 17 and 18 under special care and aggravated sexual assault.

She was released on conditional bail however was rearrested more than a week later, on August 16, and charged with a string of other offences relating to a separate complaint.

Ms Brailey was charged with inciting to commit offence - sexual intercourse with a person under care.

She was also charged with sexually touch person under special care, incite person under care to sexually touch, use carriage service to solicit child abuse material, use carriage service to access child abuse material and possess/control child abuse material.

According to court documents, Ms Brailey is accused of exchanging social media messages with a 16-year-old over a one-week period in July.

She is accused of soliciting and accessing child abuse material via social media between July 8 and July 19.

She is then alleged to have engaged in sexual acts with the same teenager at a southwestern Sydney school on another date.

She is alleged to have incited the 16-year-old to sexually touch her and sexually touched them between 3.20pm and 3.40pm.

Over the same 20-minute period, Ms Brailey is also alleged to have incited the teenager to have sexual intercourse with her.

She appeared alongside supporters and her solicitor Abbas Soukie in Campbelltown Local Court on Wednesday morning.

Mr Soukie told the court that he had yet to be provided with the brief of evidence despite what he said were repeated attempts to contact the officer in charge of the investigation.

The court was told that the Director of Public Prosecutions received the brief late last month but it wasn’t compliant.

Magistrate Rana Daher ordered that the brief be served on the defence by October 29, with the matter to return to court the following day.
