Update for police officer accused of horrific double homicide
A police officer who allegedly murdered his ex-partner and the man’s new boyfriend will undergo psychiatric testing nearly a year after the alleged double homicide.
A police officer who allegedly murdered his ex-partner and the man’s new boyfriend will undergo psychiatric testing before entering pleas to the allegations against him.
Beau Lamarre-Condon, 29, has been charged with killing Channel 10 presenter Jesse Baird and Qantas flight attendant Luke Davies at a sharehouse in Paddington, in Sydney’s east, in February last year.
He allegedly shot the couple with his police-issued Glock before placing their bodies inside surfboard bags which were stashed on a remote property in Goulburn, in southern NSW.
Police allege Mr Lamarre-Condon had exhibited “predatory” behaviour towards Mr Baird, with whom he had been in a brief relationship, in the months before the two men died.
His lawyer Alex Curnick appeared in Sydney Downing Centre Local Court on Tuesday to fight for access to Mr Lamarre-Condon’s phone records and data.
The court previously heard she had subpoenaed the NSW Commissioner of Police for access to a Cellebrite reports for her client’s phone and the phones of persons of interest.
The reports typically extract data from a phone, including text messages, call history, location information, and the internet browsing history of the device.
Ms Curnick said she has since received her client’s phone records and she was hopeful that issues surrounding the service of the rest of the data could be resolved in the near future.
She noted there was an “extraordinary volume of material in the brief” of evidence, which would need to be provided to forensic psychiatrist Andrew Ellis.
Mr Lamarre-Condon will be evaluated by Dr Ellis for a psychiatric assessment in early March, the court was told.
He is facing two counts of domestic violence related murder and one count of breaking and entering, but has not yet entered pleas to the charges.
The former police officer has been in custody on remand for nearly a year after he handed himself into police four days after the bodies of Mr Baird and Mr Davies were found.
Police allege he planned to murder Mr Baird after harassing him for months but Mr Davies became collateral damage because he happened to be in the house at the time.
The slain men’s bodies were found inside surfboard bags on a rural property near Goulburn after a desperate week-long search.
Mr Lamarre-Condon has since been dismissed from the NSW Police Force.
