Two young men from Sydney have appeared in court accused of punching, kicking and dragging a 15-year-old boy into their car, to teach him a lesson about misbehaving in school.

The teenage victim was crossing the road near a bus stop in Hurstville, southern Sydney, last Wednesday about 5.45pm when the alleged attack took place.

The boy was standing at the intersection of Barratt Street and Woodville Street waiting to cross the road, when a black Holden Captiva stopped in front of him at the traffic lights.

Two men got out of the car and allegedly began punching and kicking the boy, before dragging him to the car and putting him in the back seat.

Court documents submitted by NSW Police and seen by news.com.au allege that Latu Mailangi, 22, and James Filhiahekava, 20, assaulted the teenage victim in clear view of the public causing “great distress and fear”.

“The victim suffered bruising and swelling,” the documents state.

“He was bleeding from being kicked and punched.”

The documents state there is “clear CCTV footage depicting the accused and co-accused assaulting the victim and dragging him into their vehicle”.

The documents also alleged that the offences were intended to curb the misbehaviour of the teenager (a relative of one of the accused) who is failing at school.

The alleged victim has declined to provide a statement to police, however there is dashcam and CCTV footage of the alleged attack, according to the documents.

Both men are charged with affray, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm in company of others.

Mailangi is a labourer, living in Auburn and “surrendered himself to the police with the co-accused”, the documents state.

Both men appeared in Sutherland Local Court today.

They will be back in on April 24.
