A Sydney teacher has been charged after allegedly having sex with a 17-year-old student.

Monique Nguyen, 28, a music teacher, was arrested by police in late May, The Sydney Morning Herald reported.

She had sex with a 17-year-old male student in April, at Baulkham Hills, police allege.

Nguyen has been charged with sexual intercourse with a young person under her special care.

She was released on bail after her arrest. She was not required to appear before a magistrate when her case was mentioned on Thursday.

Her case will return to Parramatta Local Court in September.

It comes after PE teacher Tayla Brailey was charged with sexually abusing two male students, aged 16 and 17, that she met while working at a high school in Sydney’s south west.

Ms Brailey, 30, was initially arrested at a school in Sydney on August 7 following reports a 17-year-old boy had been sexually touched by a female teacher.

On Friday, NSW Police arrested Ms Brailey at her Wollongong home.

She was taken to Wollongong Police Station and charged with an additional six charges – use carriage service to solicit child abuse material, use carriage service to access child abuse material, possess/control child abuse material – use carriage service, incite person under care to sexually touch, sexually touch person under special care and sexual intercourse with person under care.

She appeared at Wollongong Court on Friday where she was granted conditional bail to appear at Campbelltown Local Court on Wednesday October 2.

Ms Brailey was already facing charges of having sexual intercourse with a person between 17 and 18 years old and under special care without their consent.

She has also been charged with sexually touching a person between 17 and 18 years old under special care and aggravated sexual assault of a child under her authority.

Earlier in August, Magistrate Imad Abdul-Karim granted bail under strict conditions, which included prohibiting Ms Brailey from entering any educational facility.

She is also barred from being in the company of anyone under the age of 18 years old unless the child is in the company of a carer.

Under the strict bail conditions, the 30-year-old must report to police every day and comply with an overnight curfew.

Mr Abdul-Karim also ordered her not to access social media and told her she is only allowed to have one phone, to which police must be given access.

The teacher has been told to surrender her passport and must not approach any international point of departure.
