The indigenous man who sparked national headlines and a police probe after he was tasered during a dramatic arrest in inner Sydney has been granted bail.

Kris Bradshaw, 32, was on Tuesday given bail in the NSW Supreme Court as he denies allegations he threatened an officer during his now infamous arrest, which was captured on video.

The prosecution opposed his application on the grounds he had previously broken bail conditions and fears he would offend again.

However he was freed by Justice Peter Garling to live with his mother at Tweed Heads subject to a number of strict conditions.

Bradshaw is facing a string of charges including in relation to his drama-charged arrest at Paddington in Sydney’s inner east in June and he will appear again in court in November.

NSW Police Commissioner Mick Fuller has been asked to investigate the incident and whether the officer’s use of the taser was justified.

Bradshaw’s charges include resisting arrest and intimidating a police officer in the execution of duty, with the court previously hearing he allegedly threatened to injure police officers.

He had pleaded not guilty.

It’s alleged Bradshaw ran from police after being suspected of shoplifting before he was cornered at a house off South Dowling Street.

The video captured by a bystander, which was widely circulated on social media, shows an officer ordering Bradshaw to “get the f*** down, get on the ground now.”

Bradshaw drops to his knees before he is told to put his hands out and lie on the ground.

A male officer pulls him to his feet and repeatedly tasers him in the hands, neck and shoulders as he writhes in pain.

He was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital and the court heard that he had suffered blurred vision as a result of the incident.

During a bail application hearing on Tuesday, Justice Garling questioned whether the video was proof that Bradshaw had not complied with police directions after he failed to lie on the kerb.

However his solicitor Sara Jaric argued he had knelt on the ground and placed his arms forward.

Bradshaw’s 15 strict conditions include that he abide by a 7pm-6am curfew, report to police three times a week and not take alcohol or illegal drugs.

He must also post a $2000 surety.

He is also facing unrelated charges of aggravated break and enter, possessing a prohibited substance and contravening an AVO.
