Sydney man jailed for 33 years for murder and sexual assault of teen
AYMEN Terkmani has been jailed for at least 33 years for the 2015 sexual assault and murder of a 16-year-old boy
A SYDNEY man has been jailed for at least 33 years for the sexual assault and brutal murder of a 16-year-old boy in a vacant house.
Aymen Terkmani, 24, was found guilty in August of sexually assaulting and murdering Mahmoud Hrouk in May 2015 at an unoccupied Fairfield East home, AAP reports.
NSW Supreme Court Justice Lucy McCallum on Friday sentenced Terkmani to a maximum of 45 years in prison with a non-parole period of 33 years.
The teenager was beaten with a toaster and a rolling pin, strangled and sexually assaulted before his half-naked and bloodied body was found the next morning. His numerous injuries included a skull fracture, brain damage, fractured ribs, fractured eye socket, collapsed lung and internal injuries.
At his sentence hearing, the crown prosecutor called for Terkmani to be jailed for life, meaning he would die in prison, but his lawyer argued for a lesser penalty.
In a victim impact statement, the teenager’s brother, Ahmed Hrouk, said he had lost “my best friend, my partner in everything, my happiness”. “I feel very lost, I feel empty; my heart’s become so cold and fragile,” the 20-year-old said.
