Sensational video twist in Guy Sebastian’s feud with neighbour over fence

A lawyer for Guy Sebastian’s neighbour, who is accused of intimidating the pop star, has told the court the Australian Idol was the “bad guy” in the dispute.

What happens when you are charged with a crime?

A lawyer for Guy Sebastian’s neighbour has told a court that mobile phone footage of a “spat” showed the pop star being “demeaning” and was proof he was “not in fear”.

Phillip Richard Hanslow, 66, is battling charges he intimidated Mr Sebastian and damaged their shared fence during an incident outside their Maroubra homes earlier this year.

Police were called to the beachside suburb about 1.30pm on January 23, where it’s alleged Mr Hanslow had threatened to kill his famous neighbour during an argument as part of an ongoing neighbourhood dispute.

Mr Hanslow previously told reporters he was on the toilet when police arrested him, before he was charged with intimidating Mr Sebastian and damaging property.

In response to the allegations, last month Mr Hanslow’s solicitor Bryan Wrench issued the music star with a subpoena for CCTV footage and any phone camera video related to the alleged incident.

Mr Wrench previously told the court he anticipated the footage would show Mr Sebastian towering over Mr Hanslow with a brick in his hand.

On Thursday, in response to the subpoena, Mr Wrench was granted access to a USB containing mobile phone footage which was handed over by Mr Sebastian’s lawyers.

After reviewing the footage, Mr Wrench returned to court where he told Magistrate Jacqueline Milledge there had been a “significant development”.

Mr Wrench told the court the USB contained three pieces of footage from Mr Sebastian’s phone.

He told Ms Milledge that this came after Mr Sebastian only handed over two pieces of phone footage to police.

“The third one is highly significant,” Mr Wrench told the court.

“It shows (Mr Sebastian) being demeaning to my client, provocative and sarcastic.”

Mr Wrench said while it depicted a “spat”, it showed that Mr Sebastian was not “in fear”

“There is certainly a bad guy in this,” Mr Wrench said

As well, Mr Wrench told the court the pop star’s lawyers had not fully complied with the subpoena.

He said while some CCTV from Mr Sebastian’s home was handed over, no footage of the incident was provided.

Mr Sebastian’s lawyers were not in court on Thursday.

Mr Wrench asked the matter return to court next week so he could be granted access to all CCTV from Mr Sebastian’s home relevant to the incident.

“We expect justice and nothing but the full truth in this matter,” Mr Wrench said outside court on Thursday.

The matter will return to court next Thursday.
