An “abhorrent” ex-employee of a prestigious school who preyed on several children by offering money and gifts for sex will spend six years behind bars, as his victims shared the devastating impact of his crimes.

Khalil John Nohra groomed six girls as young as 13 over Snapchat while working at Parramatta Tara Anglican School for Girls over the course of 18 momths.

Parramatta District Court heard the 29-year-old used fake names and pretended he was up to a decade younger when he befriended the first victim, aged 13, in early 2021.

He asked for sexual favours, including oral and penetrative sex, in exchange for giving her up to $250, vapes and alcohol.

He persuaded her to send him sexual photos and messaged her videos of himself engaging in sexual acts with women.

The child had penetrative sex with Nohra five times over several months and met with him up to 18 times outside of school.

One night, he handed her a bottle of Midori and Alize at McDonald’s and said: “The only way I can justify this is giving you these things”.

On another occasion, she snuck out of home in the middle of the night to meet Nohra at a nearby reserve and performed oral sex on him in exchange for a litre of vodka, two packs of vodka cruisers and some vapes.

The court heard he told her wanted to marry her once she turned 18.

But his undoing came when he “accused her of infidelity,” the court heard. He called her a “lying sl*t” over Snapchat, causing her to block him. He then messaged her older brother: “I just wanted to let you know your sister has snuck out to go fu*k, I thought you’d want to know this LOL”.

The concerned brother asked his sister about the message and was told he’d been harassing her. The brother reported it to police, who, upon further investigations, discovered Nohra’s disturbing Snapchat history.

In her powerful victim impact statement read in court by a support person, the girl detailed how her “so-called best friend” introduced her to Nohra at the vulnerable age of 13.

“He was sweet at first, but the first alarm bell was he always refused to show his face, but he asked me to send photos — the kinds of photos schools make presentations about to stop kids from ruining their lives,” she wrote.

“He begged me to meet up, offering money. He knew where I went to school and where I lived, so I did it”.

The victim wrote he ruined her innocence and left her with trauma.

“I will never be able to see myself the same ever again,” she wrote.

Another victim wrote that she misses her innocence.

“I feel like everyone will do bad things to me,” her statement read.

As well as the victims Nohra abused, others were propositioned by him but didn’t follow through.

One 14-year-old girl who was added by Nohra on Snapchat asked how he found her on the chat platform, to which he said his friend gave her username to him.

Despite the girl telling him to leave her alone, he asked her if she wanted to meet up.

She said she didn’t as she was 15, causing Nohra to lie and say “I’m 19”. He continued: “I’ll give you money for pictures … I’ll give you $200 if you suck my d*ck”.

When the girl replied saying “no” he said “I’ll give you $250,” which she again refused.

The court heard Nohra was responsible for Parramatta Tara Anglican School for Girls’ IT structure and was fired once he was charged with the offences in May last year.

To his psychologist, he denied being attracted to underage girls but said he’d developed an addiction to sex as a side effect of medication.

Judge Stephen Hanley SC said he had shown some remorse in his apology letter, but his behaviour was “abhorrent to the community”.

“It’s predatory (and) extremely dangerous to the mental health of the victims,” Judge Hanley said.

“I acknowledge their harm — physical and mental — and embarrassment, as the victim impact statements show, and … the enormous impact this behaviour can have”.

Nohra was sentenced to eight years and six months in prison, backdated to 16 May, 2022, with a six-year non-parole period.

He will be eligible for parole on May 15, 2028.

He earlier pleaded guilty to three counts of sexual intercourse with a child aged between 14 and 16, five counts of procuring a child for unlawful sexual activity, one count of causing a child aged between 14 and 18 to do an act of child prostitution and one count of stalking or intimidating with intent to cause fear of physical or mental harm.
