Samantha Azzopardi: Another sentence delay for international scammer

An international con artist with more than 40 aliases, who once stole two children while posing as a nanny, has had her sentence delayed once again.

The sentencing of a serial scammer who deployed up to 40 aliases – and who was set to be sentenced for pretending she was a teenage victim of sexual assault – has been delayed again.

Samantha Lyndell Azzopardi was due to front Picton Local Court on Friday for her sentence over charges of falsely representing an act to police.

She previously entered guilty pleas to the charges after the magistrate refused her bid to dismiss the charges on mental health grounds.

The 33-year-old woman’s case has been delayed once more, with the court confirming on Wednesday the sentence date had changed, but could not confirm the reason for the delay.

She is listed under the alias Emily Bamberger – the name of one of her previous victims – and was arrested in December.

The month before her arrest, she contacted a youth worker and claimed she was a teenage member of a cult and was subjected to sexual assault, held captive and that she slept in the park.

The worker contacted the Child Protection Helpline and triggered a police investigation.

A week after this, she told a doctor at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital she was a teenager who suffered sexual abuse and claimed she was injected with fertility drugs. She fled before an examination was carried out.

Her lawyer was contacted for comment.

Azzopardi is expected to return to court next week.
