Salim Mehajer to stand trial over alleged assault of ex-girlfriend Missy Tysoe
Salim Mehajer has denied allegations he assaulted and choked his ex partner when his matter was heard in court today.
Salim Mehajer will stand trial next year accused of assaulting, intimidating and choking his ex-partner over the course of more than two years.
Mr Mehajer appeared via videolink from Cooma prison on Friday to plead not guilty to seven charges before the Downing Centre District Court.
He replied “not guilty” in turn as all seven counts were read out to the court before being told his trial would take place in June 2022.
All of the charges relate to alleged attacks on former partner Melissa ‘Missy’ Tysoe, 31, who made reports to police in December 2020.
Police will allege at trial Mr Mehajer, 35, first assaulted Ms Tysoe at his Lidcombe home in April 2018.
The last incident, said to have taken place on October 4 2020, allegedly involved the property developer intentionally choking his girlfriend.
He has pleaded not guilty to four counts of assault, and single counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, intimidation to cause fear of physical or mental harm and intentionally suffocate with recklessness.
Three of the assault charges and the intimidation count relate to incidents between April 2018 and July 2019, the court heard.
The fourth assault charge is a back up to the assault occasioning actual bodily harm count, also said to have occured on October 4 last year.
Mr Mehajer was charged in January and remains in custody over this matter and unrelated ones.
Judge Dina Yehia set a trial date for mid-2022 after noting the Lidcombe man was set to face another trial in the same court in March.
That trial is set to run from March 21 to April 8, the court heard.
Mr Mehajer’s assault trial has been scheduled for June 6, 2022 and is estimated to run for five to seven days.
The matter will return to court for a readiness hearing on April 28, 2022.
