Primary school teacher who allegedly ‘spat’ on students faces court

A FEMALE primary school teacher is accused of pinching, slapping and spitting on students as young as eight years old in Sydney’s west.

The teacher who cannot be named or identified has faced court.

A FEMALE primary school teacher accused of physically assaulting four young children by pinching, slapping, scratching and spitting on them, has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

The female teacher, 57, who can’t be named for legal reasons, appeared briefly in Bankstown Local Court this morning on six counts of common assault. She arrived at court wearing a scarf over heard and dark sunglasses to avoid being photographed.

Court documents show prosecutors allege the teacher committed the offences at Bass Hill between April 30 and May 18 this year.

She was arrested at her Yagoona home on May 28, after detectives from Bankstown Police Area Command were called to the school in response to the allegations which involved four children aged between 8 and 10.

Alleged witnesses, teaching staff and students were interviewed by police before the accused teacher was later charged with six counts of common assault.

The NSW Education Department previously said the teacher could lose her job if the allegations were proven.

“The Department of Education has undertaken risk management and this person will not be teaching at schools pending the outcome of the matter,” a spokesman said.

Parents of students who attend Bass Hill Public School said they were shocked to learn of the allegations regarding the teacher.

“Sometimes she grabs the people who are bad behaved,” one young student alleged to 9 News last month.

One parent told reporters: “It doesn’t matter what they do, there’s no need for that.”

The teacher has been granted conditional bail and will reappear in court in August.
