The courts granted the 36-year-old bail on strict conditions and he is due to appear again before Downing Centre Local Court on November 28.

The salute, which embodies Adolf Hitler’s terror regime from the 1930s and 1940s, was outlawed by the Federal government in January this year.

The NSW parliament has outlawed the display of Nazi symbols and Premier Chris Minns has said the salute is also illegal in the state.

The arrest comes just days after a group of white supremacists stormed the regional NSW town of Corowa, chanting racists slogans and holding a large banner reading “white men fight back”.

All states and territories except for the Northern Territory have moved to illegalise the display of Nazi symbols to suppress a growing swell of anti-Semitic sentiment in Australia, including the emergence of Nazi movements in the public square.

The courts granted the 36-year-old bail on strict conditions and he is due to appear again before Downing Centre Local Court on November 28.
