Man’s ear severed in brutal Sydney apartment bashing
Two Irish nationals have admitted their roles in the brutal bashing of a man whose ear was severed in a Sydney apartment building.
Two Irish nationals charged over the brutal bashing of a man at a Sydney apartment block have pleaded guilty to their part in the crime.
Oliver Solan was left with stab wounds and a severed ear after allegedly being set upon by a group of up to five people, including Patrick Farrell and John Dunlea, at the Randwick apartment on August 29, 2020.
Farrell and Dunlea both pleaded guilty to the charge of cause grievous bodily harm in company while being reckless as to causing actual bodily harm.
They appeared from prison via video link in Sydney’s Downing Centre District Court on Friday.
According to court documents, police allege Farrell was called to the apartment block by a group of friends who had become involved in an altercation with Mr Solan.
Farrell arrived at the apartment complex about 8.30pm and was let in by one of the friends.
Police alleged Mr Solan was then stabbed multiple times before Farrell fled the building.
It took police months and multiple arrest warrants to track down Farrell, who has remained in custody on remand since his arrest in 2020.
A sentence hearing date for Farrell and Dunlea has been set for December 12.
