Man dies, woman stabbed in front of teen girls in alleged domestic attack
A man has died and a woman is fighting for life in a domestic-related stabbing, witnessed by two 13-year-old girls.
A woman is being interviewed by police after her husband was killed and her mother was left clinging to life after a domestic-related stabbing at North Richmond in Sydney’s northwest.
NSW Police have appealed for people to “take care of each other” following a spate of stabbings across Sydney.
Police were reporting another stabbing in the southwestern Sydney suburb of Bankstown on Monday afternoon, after a 30-year-old man was found with a puncture wound to his chest.
Earlier on Monday, emergency services were called to the North Richmond home about 10.45am on Monday and found a man aged in his 40s dead.
The man’s mother-in-law, a woman in her 60s, was taken to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition.
The deceased man’s wife, aged in her 40s, was treated for minor injuries at the scene and is talking to police.
Two 13-year-old girls, understood to be the pair’s children, were at the home at the time of the incident but were unharmed.
“When things like this happen, it just brings it home how important it is to look after each other,” Detective Superintendent Jim Stewart told reporters on Monday.
“Any scene where somebody’s passed away in these circumstances is a pretty tragic scene.
“To say it was gruesome, horrific, all those descriptive words - it is. It’s always horrible to walk into a situation like that.” Investigators are yet to establish a motive but the family was known to police for other domestic incidents.
Det Supt Stewart said domestic violence was always unacceptable: “You’ve got to be safe in your home.”
Police were called to a Bankstown location around 3pm on Monday where they found a man with a chest wound.
He was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital in a stable condition.
