Man charged for allegedly assaulting cops as they stopped homeowner going into burning building
As cops tried to stop a homeowner going back inside their burning house, police alleged a neighbour assaulted the officers.
A man is in custody after allegedly assaulting two police officers as cops tried to stop a resident going into a burning building.
The incident happened on Shepherd Street in the western Sydney suburb of St Marys after 3am on Saturday.
When emergency crew arrived at the scene a single-storey weatherboard home was well ablaze.
Two residents of the home, a 66-year-old man and his 40-year-old daughter, escaped uninjured.
An officer from the Nepean police and a dog handler were on the scene.
But one of the homeowners tried to go back into the burning house.
Police allege a 38-year-old neighbour assaulted police as the officers tried to stop the homeowner going back inside.
The 38-year-old man has been charged with two counts of assault police and one count of resits/hinder police.
He appeared in the Parramatta Bail Court Saturday morning, and was refused bail.
Police are calling for any information about the house fire.
