Ilona Molnar faces court for alleged attempted murder of husband Laszlo with pick axe in Sydney’s inner west
A woman who is accused of trying to kill her husband with a pick axe in a horrific alleged attack has had her matter heard in court.
A woman who allegedly tried to murder her elderly husband with a garden tool before turning it on herself in Sydney’s inner west has appeared in court for the first time.
Ilona Molnar was charged in her hospital bed six days after the alleged attack on 70-year-old Laszlo Molnar at the family home in Croydon on December 3.
Police were called to the Etonville Parade property by the couple’s daughter who arrived to find her parents seriously injured.
Mr Molnar was found with stab wounds to his head, believed to have been inflicted by a garden pick axe, before being rushed to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in a critical condition.
His wife, 65, was also found with injuries in the back garden and taken to the same hospital for treatment.
Both were placed in induced comas.
Ms Molnar was charged on December 9 with causing grievous bodily harm with intent to murder and refused bail in a bedside hearing that same day.
Police will allege in court she tried to kill her husband in a domestic violence incident.
On Thursday she made her first appearance at Newtown Local Court, where she did not apply for bail.
She will be remanded in custody ahead of her next appearance on February 25.
Prosecutors have applied for permission to perform a forensic procedure to collect evidence from Ms Molnar, which has been opposed.
That application will carry over to next week’s court date.
