High-profile Sydney lawyer’s big legal win
A high-profile solicitor has had a major legal win after prosecutors dropped a charge related to an alleged sexual assault.
A charge has been dropped against a Sydney lawyer who was accused of sharing information and details of an alleged sexual assault complainant.
High-profile solicitor Abdul Saddik on Thursday faced Parramatta Local Court, where prosecutors withdrew one count of publishing the details of a complainant in a prescribed sexual offence.
Mr Saddik, via his solicitor, had previously pleaded not guilty.
Police alleged that he was representing a 24-year-old man, who had been charged with sexual assault, when he shared information about the case, including the complainant’s identity, to a third party.
He was arrested in May before being granted conditional bail.
However, in a major legal win for Mr Saddik, prosecutors on Thursday withdrew the single charge.
