A former celebrity psychologist has been jailed for multiple historic child sexual abuse charges.
Robert Bruce Montgomery, best known for appearing on TV show Big Brother as a consultant, was on Monday imprisoned for 12 months over the abuse of children in the 1960s.
The 76-year-old was sentenced to four years jail with a non-parole period of 12 months by District Court Judge Paul Conlon.
His sentence included a 10 per cent discount for his early guilty plea.
Montgomery, from Queensland’s Gold Coast, in February pleaded guilty to eight charges including five counts of indecent assault and two counts of buggery.
During his sentence hearing earlier in the year, several of his victims told of being abused by Montgomery as 12-year-olds in the Sydney suburbs of Edgecliff and Marrickville.
He committed offences against three boys while he was a Scoutmaster.
One of his victims previously told the court that Montgomery encouraged him to explore his sexuality and masturbate in front of him.
Montgomery’s successful career, which included acting as an expert witness in Family Court cases and authoring multiple books, came to an end in early 2019 when he was charged by police and extradited from Queensland to NSW.
