‘Flamboyant’: Sydney florist used customer’s credit card to pay debts
A florist who charmed one of Sydney’s ritziest suburbs has been ordered to repay debts he attempted to pay using a customer’s credit card.
A florist who “charmed” one of Sydney’s most affluent suburbs has been found guilty of using a customer’s credit card to pay his debts.
Brennon Mrzyk who operated the now closed Double Bay floristry business, Mr Flamboyant, failed to appear at Sydney’s Downing Court on Thursday.
In his absence Mr Mrzyk was ordered to repay $1969.58 owed to delivery company Sherpa and fined $2000.
The court found Mr Mrzyk had used the credit card of hairdresser Mariah Rota, who had purchased flowers for her salon, to pay the delivery company what he owed.
It is understood when Ms Rota noticed the charge on her account statement it was disputed and reversed by her bank.
When Mr Mryzk was confronted by police at his shop, he denied being in control of his finances and said a new business partner was the one taking care of the bills.
Magistrate Miranda Moody described Mr Mrzyk’s conduct as “extremely dishonest” and noted he had failed to appear for previous court dates as well.
Ms Rota said she was happy with the outcome but wasn’t the only business owner claiming to have been wronged by Mr Mrzyk.
Real estate agent Renata Biller said the charming young Mr Mrzyk, who is originally from Tasmania, was initially embraced by the local business community.
“Early on he just seemed like a nice young guy with a new business in the area we wanted to try and support,” she told news.com.au earlier this year.
In the midst of his troubles in March this year, Mr Mrzyk took to social media to claim he was the one being mistreated.
“That feeling when your landlord refuses to give you Covid rent reduction and building compensation that he was supposed to,” he posted on Instagram.
“Then has the audacity to say you owe him rent money despite having $24,000 of my bond which I’ll never see again.”
