Cross-border breakthrough in police investigation into alleged fatal assault

A man has been extradited to NSW to appear in court after being charged with the alleged fatal assault of a 39-year-old man at Tweed Heads.

A man has been extradited from Queensland and charged over an alleged fatal assault in northern NSW.

A 39-year-old man died at the scene after an alleged assault at Tweed Heads on Sunday, November 24.

Emergency services found the man unconscious on the ground outside a William Street home.

And despite efforts by paramedics to save his life, he died at the scene.

Homicide detectives launched Strike Force Mantung and early on Saturday morning, police arrested a 48-year-old man at Kirra on the Gold Coast, just over the border.

He was taken to Southport Police Station before he was extradited to NSW and charged with assault causing death.

He was refused bail and will appear before Parramatta Bail Court on Sunday.
