A teacher, who was head of English at a prestigious Sydney eastern suburbs school, has faced court on child abuse material allegations.

Sydney teacher Cody Michael Reynolds arrested

A senior teacher at one of Sydney’s most prestigious schools charged with possessing child abuse material is set to have one charge withdrawn, a court has been told.

Cody Reynolds was the head of English at Moriah College in Sydney’s eastern suburbs before being stood down following his arrest by AFP officers at his Kensington home in March earlier this year.

The Downing Centre Local Court was told on Tuesday that Mr Reynolds was set to have one charge of possessing child abuse material withdrawn.

He is facing remaining charges of using a carriage service to transmit, publish or distribute child abuse material and possessing or controlling child abuse material accessed by a carriage service.

Mr Reynolds’s lawyers will take part in a case conference with prosecutors in December before he returns to court that month.

He is accused of possessing and sharing child abuse material through a laptop and two mobile phones.

Police have alleged he was identified as a result of the analysis of data seized during the arrest of a lower north shore man earlier this year.

The court was previously told Mr Reynolds was allegedly caught with a “large number” of videos involving pubescent children and some still in their “infant years”.

Mr Reynolds had admitted to owning the electronic devices however made no admissions about the child abuse material or its transmission, the court was told during a bail application earlier this year.

The prosecution has also alleged that during an online interaction Mr Reynolds and another person discussed the age of a child in a piece of child abuse material.

The other person noted the child was “too young lol”.

When Mr Reynolds was asked about his age preference, he allegedly replied “11”, the court was told in March.

In March, Mr Reynolds was granted bail on several conditions, including that he live at a Surry Hills address, only use one mobile phone that could be inspected by police, surrender his passport and report daily to police.

He will return to court on December 20.
