Chris Dawson has been transferred to a jail in regional NSW amid concerns for his safety as he gets set to learn his fate.

Chris Dawson received ‘death threats’ from prisoners

Chris Dawson has been moved to a regional NSW jail amid concerns for his safety as he awaits sentencing for the murder of his wife.

The former Newtown Jets player and teacher is waiting to learn his fate after he was in August convicted of killing his wife Lynette 40 years ago.

After being found guilty by Supreme Court Justice Ian Harrison, he was detained at Silverwater Correctional Centre in western Sydney while he awaits sentencing proceedings later this year.

However he has been moved to Macquarie Correctional Centre, just north of Wellington in central NSW.

The court heard last month that the 74-year-old had been subjected to death threats while on remand at Silverwater.

“He’s been subject to serious death threats by a number of prisoners. It’s not unusual having regard to his profile and the charge he’s been convicted of,” his solicitor Greg Walsh told reporters at the time.

Justice Harrison found that Dawson told decades of lies to cover up the killing of his wife in January 1982.

Justice Harrison found Dawson was “infatuated” and “obsessed” with a former student and the couple’s babysitter - who can only be referred to as JC - which drove him to murder his wife.

Dawson will now face a sentence hearing on November 11, during which submissions will be made on his behalf, before he is sentenced at a later date.

Mr Walsh has previously said that Dawson continues to deny having killed Lynette and “asserts that he’s innocent”.

Dawson’s lawyers have filed a notice of intention to appeal on his behalf.
