Alleged victim of swim teacher gives evidence in his trial
Another alleged victim of a former swimming teacher has told a court she was inappropriately touched by him during lessons.
Another alleged victim of former Sydney swimming teacher Kyle Daniels has given testimony he touched her inappropriately during their lessons.
Mr Daniels is standing trial over the alleged sexual touching of nine girls at the Mosman Swim Centre between 2018 and 2019, all of whom were under 10 years of age at the time.
Mr Daniels, 23, pleaded not guilty to five counts of sexual intercourse with a child aged under 10, eight counts of sexual touching of a child and eight counts of indecent assault, including two considered alternative charges.
On Thursday, the court heard via prerecorded interview from one of the alleged victims, who said Mr Daniels touched her on the “private parts” at times when he was supposed to be correcting her stroke.
The girl said on one occasion Mr Daniels told her to swim “torpedo” style with her hands above her head and she felt his hand come into contact with her private area.
Earlier in the trial the court heard from other children who made similar claims about Mr Daniels touching them inappropriately while correcting their swimming form.
One of the girls described his finger being hooked, saying, “his hand was under the water; I couldn’t see it, but I felt it”.
On another occasion when Mr Daniels was helping her dive into the water, the girl claimed he instead touched her inappropriately.
The girl said she didn’t want to continue the lesson, but also didn’t want to make things “awkward”.
“The next turn I just did it by myself because I didn’t want to be corrected again,” she said.
The trial has included testimony from one of the mothers of an alleged victim who recalled the moment her daughter said her swimming teacher had touched her.
The woman had discussed inappropriate touching with her daughter after reports emerged in the media about Mr Daniels’ arrest.
She recalled her daughter saying, “Mum, do you know my swimming teacher touches me there.”
The girl claimed her teacher “pushed her along” by touching her there while she was doing breaststroke.
“She said he ‘grabbed her’ while she was doing breaststroke and pushed her along,” the mother said.
Mr Daniels was arrested on March 12, 2019 and taken to Manly police station.
The trial before Judge Kara Shead continues.
