A young man accused of attempted murder in Queensland was allegedly involved in kidnapping and seriously injuring a man in NSW while on bail.

Hamzah Sayed appeared in Sydney’s Burwood Local Court via audiovisual link on Tuesday to apply for bail after spending one night behind bars on remand.

The court was told the 20-year-old was on bail for serious charges in Queensland, including attempted murder, when he allegedly kidnapped a man in Sydney’s west.

Police allege Mr Sayed participated in a criminal group of six people when he abducted the man in North Parramatta on the morning of February 21.

He is accused of seriously injuring the alleged victim with the intention of obtaining a financial advantage.

According to police, the man sustained injuries to his face, body and leg during the alleged abduction.

He was rushed to hospital when the robbery and serious crimes squad raided the home about 9.40pm on February 24.

Inside the house, officers claim they found the alleged victim being held against his will.

Police seized drugs, ammunition, electronic devices and items believed to have been used during the alleged kidnapping.

Mr Sayed was arrested and charged with taking or detaining in company with intent to get advantage occasioning actual bodily harm and participating in a criminal group to contribute criminal activity.

His lawyer Ahmed Dib argued the case was “circumstantial” and hinged “entirely” on the alleged victim’s evidence.

He said three of the other alleged kidnappers brought the man into the North Parramatta home when Mr Sayed was already present.

Mr Dib told the court that CCTV showed Mr Sayed and the alleged victim were in the same elevator, but they had been in separate cars when the man was being transported.

“My client wasn’t actively involved in the violence,” Mr Dib said.

“All that is suggested is that my client was with the victim during the period of containment.”

Police prosecutor David Henderson told the court that Mr Sayed “being there at the premises with the victim” and “engaging with the victim” was “sufficient” to justify the charges laid against him.

He said the 20-year-old was acting “in concert” with three other alleged abductors when he detained the alleged victim.

The court was told the man was able to pinpoint the house where he was detained, which Mr Henderson claimed bolstered the “very strong police case”.

Magistrate Clare Farnan agreed the case against Mr Sayed “appears to be very strong”.

“I don’t believe this is a case that relies entirely on the word of the victim,” she said.

The court was told Mr Sayed had been granted bail with “extremely stringent conditions” in December last year for serious offences, including attempted murder, that allegedly occurred in Queensland.

Ms Farnan noted the 20-year-old was required to abide by an overnight curfew and reside at a NSW address.

However, police claim he had not been living at the specified address when he was arrested over the alleged kidnapping.

The magistrate refused to release Mr Sayed on bail.

He will remain in custody on remand until he returns to court on April 24.

Priyakshi Paramanathan (also known as Adriana Wynn), 38, Aaron Wynn, 40, and Maziyar Soltani, 44, have also been arrested over the violent alleged abduction.

Police believe two unknown males were also involved.
