A MAN survived being shot in the head and the hand as he sat in a car parked outside his western home last night.

The 39-year-old managed to stumble into his Chester Hill house before wrapping a towel around his skull just after 8pm.

Police remain on scene this morning, examining the white car in the driveway and bullet casings scattered on the footpath.

It is not known if video cameras attached to the house captured the incident.

It is understood police are treating the shooting as a drive-by attempt and are looking for a blue station wagon with roof racks believed to have been used as the getaway car.

They are also investigating possible bikie links to the incident.

Following the drama a young girl and a middle-aged couple were taken away from the house by detectives.

A friend of the victim, Tom Safi, said they feared for the worst.

“I thought he was dead. A lady was sitting opposite the house crying saying she thought he was dead and he has a family,” he said.

“I do all his towing for him. He’s a very nice man.”

Keaghan Busfield, 21, lives opposite the house and said his father heard the whole ordeal occur.

“My dad was lying in bed and he said he heard the shots, about four or five. He came to the door and saw the getaway car speed off,” Mr Busfield said.

Another neighbour, 21-year-old Stephanie Hawkins said the house where the shooting happened has had problems in the past.

“The house has been raided before, about three or four months ago. I think it was in relation to bikie activity,” Ms Hawkins said.
