Alleged playground ‘sexual attack’ on Sydney schoolgirl sparks investigation

The alleged playground sexual attack on a young Sydney schoolgirl earlier this month initially led to a NSW Police investigation.

An investigation is underway after claims of an alleged playground sexual attack on a young schoolgirl in Sydney’s north-west, that was escalated to NSW Police and now the Department of Education.

The incident allegedly occurred earlier this month when a young schoolgirl claimed to have been attacked by a group of boys in the playground.

The Daily Telegraph understands the incident was initially reported to NSW Police, but their investigations have since concluded with no action taken - with psychologists instead brought in to work with those involved.

A NSW Police spokesperson said in a statement: “Officers attached to Parramatta Police Area Command commenced investigations following reports of an alleged assault involving children at a... school.

“Following investigations, police have referred the incident to the Department of Communities and Justice and the Department of Education.”

The school’s principal sent an email to parents in the days after the apparent incident in which he confirmed a report had been made to police.

“The safety and wellbeing of students are our highest priorities, and any allegation of inappropriate conduct is treated seriously and promptly investigated,” the principal wrote.

The incident has been handed over from NSW Police, to the Department of Education and Department of Communities and Justice.

“Recently an allegation was made around the inappropriate conduct of some of our students. This matter has been reported to police, and the Department of Education have been informed of the allegations.

“As these allegations are under investigation by police and the Department of Education, we are not able to provide any further information at this time.”
