The boy and girl, both 15, left the camp about 9.30pm on Thursday on the outskirts of Jabiru, about 256km east of Darwin, surrounded by Kakadu National Park.

Staff from the school conducted searches of the immediate area and the nearby town but were unable to find the pair.

It’s understood the pair are students of Humpty Doo independent school Taminmin College.

College principal John Harris addressed the incident in a school newsletter on Friday before the pair were found, NT News reported.

“Police have been notified and are working with the families to find the two missing students and return them home,” Mr Harris wrote.

“The other students who attended the camp have returned to the school and will be supported by staff and the school’s counsellor.

“Our school is working with the families of the missing students and also acknowledge(s) this incident may be distressing to others, so please reach out to me if you feel your children needs further support.”

The school has more than 1100 students, and caters for Years 7 to 12, as well as special needs students.
