Two bookworm twins have set themselves an ambitious goal for the 2024 Chief Minister’s Reading Challenge. Here’s what they need to do.

Top End twins are planning to read a combined 1000 books by late August.

Rosebery Primary School Year 1 students Justin and Ivanka Zheng are leading the way through the Chief Minister’s Reading Challenge with 192 books between them already done and dusted since the initiative’s launch in March.

To meet their ambitious goal, each twin would need to read about seven books a day between now and August 23.

Justin said he found reading fun and hoped to see more kids join this year’s challenge “so they can learn”.

“I love the reading challenge, cute books, and a good story,” he said.

Rosebery Primary School assistant principal Natasha Nichols and Information, Communication and Technology Coordinator Penny Seamer said they were pleased to see the enthusiasm with which students had taken on the challenge this year.

“The Chief Minister’s Reading Challenge has complimented our structured literacy so well, with our students having more confidence and excitement to read,” Ms Nichols said.

The challenge – which closes on August 23 – is open to students from Transition to Year 12.

It encourages students to tackle 12 books over a 24-week period.
