Punters with a love for motorcycles and the open road are being called to take part in a mammoth ride from the Top End to the west coast to raise funds for an important cause – and possibly win a new set of wheels too.

Closing August 31, registrations are still open for the Black Dog Ride’s Long Ride Home, which will take registered punters on a trip of a lifetime from Darwin to Fremantle, Western Australia.

Northern Territory Black Dog Ride co-ordinator Shane Klein said the ride was for a good cause – giving back to local charities – and there was some incentive for those who couldn’t make the ride to still spare a few bucks.

“This year, we are gearing up to be bigger than ever, and for every dollar raised, we put it straight back into the heart of the community through Black Dog Ride Australia Community Grants program, which is focused on supporting initiatives that help people who suffer from mental illness, help prevent suicide, and raise awareness of both mental health and suicide prevention,” he said.

Leaving Darwin on October 1, and set to arrive in the West Australian port town by October 12, the Black Dog Ride also teamed up with Indian Motorcycles to raffle off a 2024 Indian Roadmaster Dark Horse motorcycle valued at $45,495.

The raffle will also feature a number of other monthly prizes valued up to $899.95.

Tickets for the raffle are $10, with the prize pool totalling more than $85,000.
