The official portraits of Robertson Barracks’ cutest troops have been revealed, winning the adoration of the online community.

Recently, 1st Brigade shared the formal photos of military working dogs Apollo, Nardo and Quarry who are posted to 1st Military Police Battalion.

The personality of each pup was well captured, with tongues, teeth and dreamy eyes all on full display.

“Aren’t they beautiful?” a woman commented.

“Gorgeous! Love them.” another said.

Quarry, however, ensured he was at his professional best – jaw closed and straight posture with perfect symmetry.

Some reactions made reference to the stereotype of military police soldiers not being liked within the forces.

“Finally a well liked MP,” one said.

The handsome trio joins a legacy more than a century long, with military working dogs having served alongside Australian Diggers since the WWI.

Throughout their military service, the four-legged friends have proven themselves to be hardy troops in the field, with the ability to detect, and even attack their targets if required.

Quarry was comparatively serious in his shot.

Such has been the contribution of military dogs that June 7 was designated as National Military Working Day – the same date that Sapper Darren Smith, Sapper Jacob Moerland and Explosive Detective Dog Herbie were killed in action in 2010.

Recognising the strong bond that dog handlers develop with their companions, the Australia Defence Force has allowed handlers to adopt their furry friends upon retirement.
