Adelaide River residents are being urged to stay vigilant and prepare to evacuate the region in case of flooding.

SecureNT issued an advice level alert for the area at 8.21am on Tuesday after heavy rainfall brought minor floods to the Adelaide River township.

A SecureNT spokesperson said the river levels would likely fall on Tuesday morning but could rise again.

“Higher levels are possible as further rainfall is forecast for the next few days,” they said.

“The situation is being closely monitored and warnings will be updated as required.

“River levels are elevated along Adelaide and Margaret Rivers.”

The spokesperson warned residents they could become isolated by the flooding and were at risk of property damage and livestock or pet loss.

“Fast flowing flood water can contain objects that may injure or trap you,” they said.

“Flood water may contain toxic waste, chemicals and dangerous animals.”
