The Queenslander has taken over the top job as news director from Jarrod Koh.
It’s a step up coming from the fast-paced environment of the Brisbane newsroom where she was the daytime bulletin producer.
Ms Limon has been in the industry for around 10 years and at only 28-years-old she’s hit career goals most take decades to achieve.
After dropping out of university after only 18 months to take up a job with Seven News as the news director’s personal assistant Ms Limon quickly became a reporter before jumping over to Nine News three and a half years ago.
Veteran reporter Paul Fenn, the former news director of Sydney who is up in Darwin covering the NT election, believes Ms Limon is the first female to become a news director within the Nine News Company.
“It’s a huge opportunity which is why I couldn’t say no to it, so it’s essentially news director but also the executive producer of the bulletin which is great, because that’s what I really love doing, putting together the run downs and deciding what’s the news of the day and breaking news, that’s also something that I love doing as well,” Ms Limon said.
She’s hoping to bring a touch of her background in day-time producing to the Darwin news bulletin.
“I guess I’ll bring a little bit of experience from what I was doing in Brisbane with the day- time news,” she said.
“So slightly changing the bulletin to be a bit more pacey to have some more breaking news and I don’t know just little sort of style things that every news director would do differently.
“To be honest Jarrod who I’m taking over from has left the newsroom in a really, really great state, everyone’s really happy and positive and seems to really enjoy the work that they do.”
She said for a small team everyone is able to pull their weight and produce quality news.
“The Darwin newsroom for Nine even though it’s quite small it’s still got a lot of resources and journos who just seem to be on all the time and ready to break news and that kind of thing,” Ms Limon said.
While still settling into her new role and the Top End, she has her eye on what’s most important for Territorians, including our most famous export — crocodiles.
“I don’t think you can come to Darwin and not get excited about doing a croc story, I mean a happy croc story, I would like to do one that’s quirky and fun, that kind of thing,” she said.
