Flood alert issued for Tanami, Western Desert as about 140mm of rain predicted over coming days

A flood alert has been issued for the heart of the Northern Territory ahead of an incoming deluge, which could bring about 140mm of rain over the coming days.
A tropical low off the west of the Kimberley, WA, is expected to track inland, bringing thunderstorms to the Tanami and Western Desert regions on Sunday.
Ahead of the storm, SecureNT issued a flood alert on Friday, urging residents to stay up to date and monitor conditions.
Currently at “advice level”, the alert states residents – or livestock and other animals – could become isolated from flooding, while fast flowing water could contain objects which could cause injuries or trap someone.

“Moderate to heavy falls are possible in the Flood Watch area from Sunday evening. Widespread rainfall totals of 15-30mm on Sunday, 30-60mm on Monday and 10-40mm on Tuesday are forecast with isolated daily falls in excess of 100mm possible during Monday,” the alert states.
“Significant river, creek, and stream level rises are likely with heavy rainfall, as well as overland inundation with areas of localised flooding possible across the Flood Watch area.
“Many roads, including secondary highways may be affected. Some communities and homesteads may become isolated. Check road conditions before travelling.”
