Barkly Highway: direction closures between Threeways, Barkly Homestead
High clearance, 4WD vehicles are recommended for road users who need to travel the damaged highway.
Road movement along the Barkly Highway will be affected in the coming days, with directional closures and restrictions to be implemented following a month of flood water wreaked havoc along the route.
At the weekend, directional closures between Barkly Homestead and Threeways were in place, with eastbound traffic – NT to Queensland – permitted to travel between 6am and 9am.
Westbound traffic – Queensland to NT – are permitted to travel between 12pm to 3pm.
Secure NT advised motorists to expect delays along the section of highway, drive to conditions and comply with all traffic control.
As of Monday April 8, directional closures will remain between Barkly Homestead and Threeways, with westbound traffic – Queensland to NT – permitted to travel between 6am to 9am.
Thereafter, eastbound traffic – NT to Queensland – have been allocated a travel bracket of 12pm to 3pm.

Secure NT advised there was a 13 axle limit, with no oversized vehicles permitted and high clearance 4WD recommended for the route.
On Saturday, Member for Barkly Steve Edgington took to social media to show the extent of the damage, with potholes and large bodies of water visible across the route.
