Grace Tame announces shock engagement to Max Heerey

The former Australian of the Year is engaged to her longtime boyfriend, sharing the sweet moment he got down on one knee.

2021 Australian of the year, Grace Tame, has announced her engagement to longtime partner Max Heerey.

Mr Heerey got down on one knee during a bike ride on Saturday and proposed with an elegant ring that featured a brilliant blue sapphire gem.

Sharing the news on Instagram and Twitter, Ms Tame said the design was by the jeweller Jordan Grech from the independent studio Tender Scars.

Ms Tame shared the happy news on Instagram, sharing a photo of the ring and the moment of the proposal.

"I said, “yeeeES!!!” OATH YES! Love you forever and ever angel man,” she wrote.

Ms Tame is known for her prolific contribution to legal reform on Australian laws which previously prevented sexual abuse survivors in certain states from publicly sharing their story. In December 2021, she also began The Grace Tame Foundation alongside her fiance. Mr Heerey works as the non-for-profit’s Chief Operating Officer which aims to continue Ms Tame’s political and social advocacy work against the sexual abuse of children.
