French student Sophie Collombet declined offer of lift home the night she was murdered in South Brisbane
A CLASSMATE of French student Sophie Collombet has revealed the fateful choice she made the night she was murdered.
A CLASSMATE of murdered French student Sophie Collombet offered her a lift home from university the night she was killed, but she declined the offer and chose to take the bus instead.
News of the fateful decision emerged last night during a counselling session at Griffith University and conversations her classmates had with friend Roselyne Trott afterwards.
What Sophie said on last trip home
Boyfriend helped identify Sophie
“This young guy spoke about walking to his car with Sophie and it was raining heavily,” Mrs Trott said.
“They both shared her umbrella and he offered her a lift home but she said, ‘no thanks, I’ll go on the bus’.”
The pair then said goodbye before Ms Collombet ran to the bus and was gone.
“We could see that he was very upset, thinking that was the last time he said goodbye to Sophie.”
The revelation came as it emerged Ms Collombet, 21, was murdered about 9pm in a CCTV black spot in what police describe as an opportunistic killing.
Detectives have revealed the killing occurred beyond the view of cameras and the suspect had not been spotted despite days of reviewing footage.
The 21-year-old was walking home from university and was last recorded by CCTV cameras at the Kurilpa Bridge just before 9pm.
Police believe the killer did not stalk the student but instead snatched her in a spontaneous attack.
But police have reason to be confident of finding the killer. You can find out why here.
