With the federal election now only a few days away, it’s time to start planning where you’re going to be heading to exercise your tri-annual democratic right.

More than 7000 polling booths will be open across the country, with many schools, churches and community halls moonlighting as voting stations this weekend.

Voting opens at 8am on election day and closes at 6pm sharp.

Plan your day using the Tasmanian polling booth directory below, searchable by postcode, locality or electorate and follow our live coverage of the election here.

With extra hygiene and Covid-19 safety measures in place on the day, be sure to give yourself plenty of time to cast your vote on May 21.

If you can’t make it on election day, you can apply for a postal vote by Wednesday, May 18.

Pre-polling booths are also open across the state, find your closest pre-polling centre here.

And if you’re not in the state where you’re enrolled to vote on election day, you will need to vote at an interstate voting centre. And if you’re overseas, your ballots must be returned in time to be counted.

That’s the beauty of compulsory voting.

Happy voting – and don’t forget to snag a democracy sausage while you’re at it.
