FORMER prime minister Tony “no sniping” Abbott is back taking shots at his parliamentary colleagues, but this time he’s not taking aim at his own side.

Speaking from a Darwin pub with beer in hand, the former leader let loose on Opposition Leader Bill Shorten, letting voters know what he really thinks.

Drawing on the Labor Party’s record, he highlighted the mistakes of governments led by Kevin Rudd and Julia Gillard, and said a Shorten government would be even worse.

He took a shot at Labor over its decision to ban live cattle exports, and said the fifth anniversary of the ban was “a good chance to remember how bad the former Labor government was”.

“This was one of the most catastrophic decisions of a government, that were the gold medallists in catastrophe,” he told Sky News.

“They were the absolute world champions at stuffing things up.”

But he had even stronger words for Labor leader and prime ministerial hopeful, Mr Shorten.

“If Bill Shorten were to become prime minister, it would be worse than Gillard and worse than Rudd,” he said.

“It would be those on steroids.”

Mr Abbott had little involvement in the Federal Election campaign, saying he’s concentrating on his own electorate, and working on the party’s goal to retain government.

He’s currently in Darwin where he has been campaigning with local MP Natasha Griggs.
