One Nation candidate says ‘only thing worse than a gay person with power is a woman’ (9 News)

A tattooed One Nation candidate has been caught out making derogatory comments about women and gay people in online videos.

Stuart Bonds, a 33-year-old coal mine mechanic standing for One Nation in the NSW seat of Hunter in next month’s federal election, made the comments in now-deleted videos posted to a YouTube channel run by his wife, Finnish tattoo model Sini Ariell.

“The only thing worse than a gay person with power is a woman,” Mr Bonds said in one video, Nine News reported. “I don’t have a woman boss and I don’t have a gay boss, and there’s a reason for that.”

In other videos posted to his own Facebook page, Mr Bonds raised questions about the 1996 Port Arthur Massacre — echoing similarly controversial comments by One Nation leader Pauline Hanson in a hidden-camera sting by Qatari broadcaster Al-Jazeera.

“Why was there no trial, a proper trial with a jury done?” Mr Bonds said. “Why was there a 30-year embargo with the evidence? They’re legitimate questions.”

Mr Bonds also labelled the September 11, 2001 terror attacks that killed nearly 3000 people a conspiracy. “You should question everything,” he said.

“What do you think about Osama bin Laden being shot and thrown overboard in the ocean so we couldn’t find out who he was? It’s a legitimate concern.”

Asked by Nine News whether he regretted any of his online comments Mr Bonds said “no, no, no”, and that he was “absolutely not” a homophobe or misogynist.

One Nation has been contacted for comment.
