Tasmanian Labor MP Brian Mitchell has apologised for suggesting in social media posts that a Labor MP was “massaging boobies” as new posts emerge that suggested the ALP would need “a mop” to clean up if after women couldn’t hold their bladders.

Mr Mitchell has deleted his Twitter account after news.com.au revealed a long list of posts on Twitter and Facebook.

“I acknowledge that some of my previous comments have been insensitive. I shouldn’t have made them and I apologise for them. I’ve now removed the comments.”

But it’s now emerged he also claimed in 2011 that a debate at ALP national conference was going on so long that some women might lose control of their bladders.

“If this debate doesn’t wrap up soon we are going to need mops,’’ he said.

“Women don’t do well holding on....”

In another 2013 post, he suggested that former deputy Labor leader Jenny Macklin had a “foot in mouth” issue.

“At least the lovely Jenny Macklin won’t need to buy food,’’ he said.

“Her foot in mouth provides that “I’m full” feeling,’’ he wrote.

In one post from 2011, he responded to Labor frontbencher Ed Husic spruiking new benefits for families and pensioners in the Mount Druitt Standard.

The story was accompanied by an image of Mr Husic gesticulating with his hands as he explained the policy.

“Chiefly MP outlines the new benefits of … massaging boobies,‘’ Mr Mitchell wrote alongside the picture.

In another post on Twitter, Mr Mitchell explained on March 3, 2011 that he was very keen to obtain an IPad2 and would do just about anything to get one.

“I will gargle balls for money to buy an Ipad2,” he wrote.

The Member of Lyons is a former journalist, political staffer and Hungry Jacks manager who was elected to the seat six years ago.

It’s his Facebook posts while he was a media consultant in the years leading up to his political ascendancy that have come to haunt him.

Five years ago, Mr Mitchell apologised after calling an ABC journalist “a maggot” after Lateline reporter Matt Wordsworth quizzed Labor MP Justine Keay about her citizenship.

“Go and do your research, maggot!” Mr Mitchell said to the Lateline reporter.

The controversy follows news.com.au’s reporting of Liberal candidate Katherine Deves’ deleted Twitter account calling trans teenagers “surgically mutilated” and suggesting US President Joe Biden has ”dementia”, claims that have led to the emergence of Ms Deves as a national figure.

On Monday, The Daily Telegraph also reported that a Labor Senate candidate running in an unwinnable spot called Mich-Elle Myers has deleted her entire Twitter account.

In a series of social media posts in 2013 Ms Myers tweeted, “Jesus was gay! You heard it here first”, told the Pope to “get your head out of your arse!”, and wrote, “I’ve had enough of the catholic (sic) church & the sh*t that comes from their mouths”.
