Federal Election 2016: Bill Shorten’s face on a bus is attracting heaps of attention
BILL Shorten’s campaign bus is copping plenty of heat on social media, but it isn’t the only awkward moment for the Labor Party leader.
WITH 52 days to go on the campaign trail before the Australian Federal Election, opposition leader Bill Shorten appears to have taken a leaf out of Leslie Knope’s book, of Parks and Recreation fame.
Shorten’s campaign bus was emblazoned with a huge image of his head and some social media users were amused by its sheer size.
We’ve hand picked the best of the best reactions, below.
Meanwhile, Bill’s bus isn’t the only blunder for the Labor Party leader. A photo of Herbert candidate Cathy O’Toole protesting outside Liberal Party MP Ewen Jones’ office has sparked questions of disarray within Labor ranks, with reports the party is “disunited on the issue of boat arrivals”.
The photo, taken in February, shows Ms O’Toole holding a sign reading, “Let them stay”.
And yet today Ms O’Toole appeared beside Mr Shorten at Heatley State Primary School in Herbert, Townsville saying she backed Labor’s asylum policy 100 per cent.
Mr Shorten says he will continue the “turn back the boats” policy if Labor is elected, though Ms O’Toole refused to use the same lingo.
“What I was saying at that point in time is very clear — I support the humane treatment of people regardless of whether they’re refugees or not,” she said.
Bill Shorten's forehead should not be put on the side of a bus. Wowza!
