After losing his seat to the independent candidate Allegra Spender, it appears outgoing Wentworth MP Dave Sharma has deleted his Twitter profile.

People attempting to find Mr Sharma’s profile are instead greeted with a “This account doesn’t exist” message.

Mr Sharma’s Instagram profile (@davesharmaforwentworth) is still active, however the most recent post is dated back to 4pm on Saturday.

Speaking at Bondi Beach on Sunday morning, Ms Spender said she had yet to hear from Mr Sharma, who has yet to concede defeat. This was despite The Australian calling the seat for Ms Spender last night.

“I don’t know if I missed the call but I haven’t heard from him,” she said.

The Wentworth electorate covers some of Sydney’s wealthiest suburbs including Vaucluse, Bondi, Elizabeth Bay, Point Piper and Paddington. Mr Sharma reclaimed the electorate from independent member Dr Kerryn Phelps in the 2019, just seven months after she defeated him in the Wentworth by-election in 2018.

Speaking to his supporters around 10.30pm on Saturday, Mr Sharma touched on the troubling voting figures.

“It’s been a tough day at the office,” he began.

“It’s a real privilege to put yourself forward as a candidate.

“We together have achieved a lot in Wentworth these past four years. We’ve supported our local community and the nation.”

Mr Sharma also made the point that several of his moderate Liberal colleagues had lost their seats in the election, and that the Liberal party would need to recuperate and recalibrate from their loss.

“It’s clear that several, indeed a large number of my colleagues are doing it tough right now,” he said.

“And if we cannot keep them tonight we have to make sure there is a space for their views in the party. We as a party will have many lessons to learn from this evening.”

The former diplomat was one of the six Liberal MPs who lost their seat to teal independents Zoe Daniel (Goldstein), Kylea Tink (North Sydney), Sophie Scamps (Mackellar) and Kate Chaney (Curtin). This was also in addition to the three independent MPs – Zali Steggall (Warringah), Andrew Wilkie (Clark) and Helen Haines (Indi) who retained their seats.

Ms Spender actually comes from a family of high-profile Liberal politicians, including her father, John Spender, QC and her grandfather Percy Spender, who was the Liberal MP for Warringah in Sydney’s northern beaches. Ms Spender’s mother is also the legendary late fashion designer Carla Zampatti, while her sister, Bianca Spender is also a prominent fashion designer.

Prior to election day, Ms Spender told news.com.au she was willing to talk to and support both major parties, depending on their final numbers. Backed by Climate 200, issues around climate change and integrity were also big priorities for the former business woman.

“What I want to make really clear, is I’ll maintain my independence throughout parliament,” she said.

“I’m not interested in building a coalition with anyone.”
