David Feeney’s interview with David Speers on Sky News goes off the rails
SHOCKING interviews don’t get much worse than David Feeney’s TV appearance last night. Brace yourself and prepare to cringe.
AS FAR as shocking interviews go, they don’t get much better than this.
Labor’s David Feeney was left red-faced and lost for words after being quizzed over Labor spending in an interview with Sky News political editor David Speers last night.
The junior frontbencher was being questioned over Labor’s intention to keep the schoolkids bonus as well as higher pension and family payments.
But Mr Feeney’s response raised more questions than answers and left viewers scratching their heads.
The MP touched on his accidentally forgetting to declare his $2.3 million house on his interest register, admitting it was three days of embarrassment for him.
Mr Feeney failed to declare the property in the Melbourne seat of Batman from his parliamentary records.
He admitted it was the big own goal for Labor but added: “I think unfortunately that is a trophy I managed to secure last week”.
But it got even worse from there when Speers asked if Labor intended to keep the $4.5 billion Schoolkids Bonus.
“The Baby Bonus?” Mr Feeney asked seemingly confused.
“The Schoolkids Bonus,” Speers said.
“You’ll have to refer to our relevant shadow [minister]. I’ve been a little distracted over the last few days,” Mr Feeney said.
However it didn’t end there with Speers pressing him further on the issue.
“This is a $4.5 billion measure it stops, the last payment goes out the door in July, Labor has railed against it and we don’t know whether you’re going to keep it or not.”
Mr Feeney said: “Chris Bowen — Tony Burke — have extensively discussed the shambolic press conference that was yesterday.”
Speers again directed him back to the question: “I’m not talking about that, I’m asking you about the school kids bonus, real policy, this is a real policy, real payment, that according to Labor the families rely on week by week, are you going to keep it or not?”
The MP admitted he didn’t know and said “I refer to the relevant shadow I don’t have the answer.”
Treasurer Scott Morrison was quick to jump on the comments calling him the property baron of the Labor Party.
The cringe-worthy interview didn’t go unnoticed on Twitter.

The car crash interview is the latest in a series of fumbles for Mr Feeney.
It also comes as it emerged Mr Feeney leaked Labor’s campaign blueprint confirming that it would secretly adopt the same asylum seeker policy as the government.
The revelation which was revealed in The Daily Telegraph show Labor will not be able to bring its spending under control until 2026.
The damaging leak highlights some of campaign tactics that Opposition Leader Bill Shorten intends to use against Malcolm Turnbull in the election campaign.
The notes also advised Mr Feeney how to respond to the issue of Labor’s intention to scrap negative gearing which would create a “level paying field”.
