Newspoll: Labor takes early lead after slump in Coalition’s primary vote, fall in support for Peter Dutton

Labor has taken an early lead over the Coalition despite poor ratings for last week’s budget, according to the first Newspoll of the campaign.

In good news for Anthony Albanese, Labor has taken an early lead over the Coalition according to the first Newspoll released during the election campaign.

It comes after Peter Dutton accused the Prime Minister of being “weak as water” in dealing with supermarkets, saying he was the only leader who would stand up to them on price gouging.

Mr Dutton is also under pressure to reveal how much his energy plan would save Australians. He says modelling will come out in the next few days which will more details.

It comes as a new poll has Labor coming within one seat of forming a majority government.
