ABC TV presenter Leigh Sales has publicly shamed trolls who have hurled “sexist” and “disgusting” abuse towards her on social media during the election campaign.
The 7.30 host has called out “the river of disgusting, sexist and relentless abuse” she has copped on Twitter during the eight-week campaign.
Sales shared some of the vile and degrading tweets she received after last night’s program, on which she interviewed Opposition leader Bill Shorten.
Let me call out the river of disgusting, sexist and relentless abuse I've on Twitter during this campaign with a handful of examples:

The trolls targeted Sales, calling her derogatory names, accusing her of political bias and making other lewd and explicit comments.
One Twitter user created a meme depicting Sales in bed with Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull.
Other media identities have also exposed their online trolls in the wake of Sales’ comments today.
Sky News political commentator, former New South Wales premier Kristina Keneally, called out her online abusers.
In response to a vicious tweet attacking her opinions and appearance, Keneally wrote: “Well, at least I know how to use a full stop. I also know the difference between ‘your’ and ‘you’re’”.
On 7.30 last night, Sales questioned Shorten on Labor’s Medicare policy telling the would-be Prime Minister: “You yourself said genuine Australians can spot a fake from a mile away”.
“Have you hurt your credibility by stretching the truth and switching course on policy a bit too often?”
Leaders from both sides of politics have appeared on 7.30 during the 2016 election campaign, with Sales known for her no-nonsense interviewing style.
