Teenager shot on Gold Coast balcony reportedly told to keep music down

A teenager was shot while standing on a Gold Coast apartment balcony last night, leading police to lockdown parts of Surfers Paradise.

Australia's worrying murder trend

A teenager was shot on a Gold Coast apartment balcony on Saturday night after being told by a neighbour to turn down the music, according to reports.

The 18-year-old man was rushed to the Gold Coast University Hospital suffering a gun shot wound to his arm while standing outside a unit complex at about 10.45pm on Saturday night.

Police confirmed to news.com.au the alleged offender is still on the run.

The incident is still being investigated but police suggested the shooting may have come as a result of a loud music dispute, The Courier Mail has reported.

“Early indications appear that there may have been loud music playing from the apartment and this happened as result,” Queensland Police spokesperson said.

Police said in a statement earlier this morning that the victim did not know the person responsible for the violent crime.

“Preliminary investigations indicate the man was standing on the balcony of a unit when a suspected firearm was discharged from a neighbouring unit, striking the man in his left upper arm,” the statement said.

A witness told 9News he was scared when the shooting occurred.

“I didn’t know what was going on,” Nathaniel Ward said.

“Like I just had to run out of there quick-smart.”

A section of Surfers Paradise was in lockdown following the incident, with an exclusion zone set up long the Gold Coast Hwy between Thomas Dve and Beach Road.

The main road was reopened just before 3am.

The teen’s injuries were not life-threatening and no one else was harmed at the scene.

Police are appealing for anyone with information or dashcam vision from around the area to contact them on 131444 and quote this reference number: QP1901162794.
