Mother’s desperate plea for answers after sons’ brutal bashing
Siblings Lochie and Rueben Higgins were at a Coles supermarket carpark when they were brutally attacked — and then left for dead.
An Aussie mum has shared gruesome photos of her sons’ horrific injuries after they were set upon in a supermarket carpark in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Siblings Lochie and Rueben Higgins, aged 17 and 20, were walking past a Coles store at around 3am in Mornington, Victoria on Saturday when they were attacked by a group of men.
According to Victoria Police, the men were walking through the carpark after leaving a nearby pub when they were “involved in an altercation”.
The pair were both punched and knocked to the ground before bystanders arrived on the scene to help, causing the attackers to flee in a car.
They were taken to hospital with “non-life threatening head injuries”.
The boys’ mother, Amanda Kilner Higgins, shared photos of her injured sons taken in their hospital beds at Melbourne’s The Alfred Hospital on Facebook and pleaded for help and information.
“These are my 2 boys at the Alfred ED. Both king hit early this morning in Mornington coles carpark. If anyone saw or knows anything please let me know. Can everyone please share. Thank you xx,” she posted.
The post attracted an outpouring of shares and comments, with wellwishers condemning the attackers and hoping for a quick recovery for the men.
“I hope your boys recover quick and they find who did it. Such cowards to hurt other people. Too much violence in today’s society,” one Facebook user wrote, while another added: “Absolutely disgusting, hope they catch the dogs who did this!”
Father Dean Higgins told 9 News described his sons as “good boys” who were keen boxers and “a little bit cheeky like most of us”.
“One inch higher and both my sons may not be with us,” Mr Higgins said.
“It’s not a phone call you like to get at four o’clock in the morning, I don’t wish that upon anybody.”
Police have confirmed they are currently speaking to a man in relation to the Mornington assault after a 28-year-old Lyndhurst man visited a police station this afternoon.
The investigation is ongoing and investigators are asking for witnesses or people with any information regarding the attack to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or share confidential details on the website.
