Man charged over pipe bomb explosions faces 20 years in jail

A man has been arrested after he allegedly set off multiple pipe bombs and damaged a suburban property.

A man has been charged over a series of pipe bomb explosions in Perth’s southeastern suburbs.

Police will allege the 27-year-old set off pipe bombs in the suburbs of Byford, Mount Nasura and Thornlie in August.

“Two of the explosions caused damage to a property,” WA Police said in a statement on Saturday.

The man, from Serpentine, has now been charged with three counts of causing an explosion likely to do serious injury to property and one count of failing to obey a data access order.

“The offence of Causing (an) Explosion likely to do Serious Injury to Property carries a maximum penalty of 20 years’ imprisonment,” WA Police said.

The 27-year-old is due to appear before the Armadale Magistrates Court on October 24.

Investigations are ongoing and anyone with information regarding the incidents has been urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
