Inside the lives of girls charged with car boot kidnap
One likes rap music, gangster-style jewellery and girls, the other appears to be a “rev head” who mourns her murdered teen lover.
One likes rap music, gangster-style jewellery and girls, the other appears to be a “rev head” who loves cars and motor bikes and mourns her murdered teen lover.
Both were friends of Brayden Dillon, who was killed aged 15 as he slept by a paid hit man in an alleged revenge killing.
Now the two young women charged with the alleged car boot kidnap of another girl have been refused bail.
And on social media, friends of the two accused from Sydney’s southwestern suburbs near Campbelltown are staunchly standing up for their mates.
Kayley “Kayz” Ketley, 24, and Latia “Tia” Henderson, 18, are in custody at least until their next court appearance.
Police allege the two women attacked Nisha Phillips, 24, at Claymore the night before, stabbed her in the knee, thigh and forearm, stole her car and placed her in the boot.
Detectives are investigating whether drugs were involved and if the two accused were taking the alleged victim to the notorious Belanglo Forest.
A truck driver spotted Ms Phillips’ hand poking through the tail light of her white Holden Commodore driving down the Hume Highway around 11am and called Triple-0.
Police pulled over Henderson and Ketley near Berrima, 130km south of Sydney and just 10 minutes from the Belanglo Forest turn-off.
They retrieved Ms Phillips from the boot and she was taken to Liverpool Hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Henderson and Ketley appeared in Picton Local Court on Thursday charged with unlawful wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, detaining to gain advantage causing bodily harm and driving a vehicle without owner consent.
Ketley, who was not legally represented but applied for bail, was also charged with possession of cannabis and driving while disqualified.
Both women were bail refused and will appear in Campbelltown Local Court on April 7.
On their social media pages both women were receiving a lot of flak, Ketley about her sexuality and her past and Henderson about posed photos with filters.
In between the glamorous photos, Latia Henderson has posted regularly about Brayden Dillon’s death and how she misses him.
She also posted a sad tribute to young relative, Indy Henderson, 3, who died in 2016 after a 425kg monument inscribed with “Lest we Forget” fell on her during her grandmother’s 50th birthday at a Taree bowling club.
She also has posted numerous photos of different cars and motor bikes she admires, bizarrely posting with an image of a Holden Commodore two years ago with the comment, “I’m going to marry a commodore”.
She also posted an image of a white car’s tail-lights and exhaust, writing “how’s them canons”.
On or around the anniversary of Brayden’s April 2017 murder, when she would have been aged about 14, Henderson has posted photos of herself with him.
In 2019, she wrote “You’re always on my mind” and “emotionally drained … no other words”, and a few months earlier, “I miss you so much Bray. Rest in peace beautiful boy”.
Kayley Ketley, who along with Henderson is Facebook friends with their alleged victim, has posted images of the chunky gold jewellery she wears, alcohol and cash.
Ketley has also posted the lyrics to the rap song I Bet by Chris Brown.
In a relationship with another woman since October last year, Ketley has also posted on Facebook a picture of herself holding up a bejewelled finger to the camera.
Last September she posted a picture of her with Latia Henderson and another girl, writing “next weekend is going to be one for the records”.
In defence of her friend under attack online since her arrest, Facebook user and Campbelltown resident Nikki Abrahams criticised the insulting posts, saying “kayz is a mate … she ain’t a s**t c**t.
“She actually is a lovely chick who would only ever be pushed to this point for a very good reason.
“I’m sick of seeing ppl talk s**t n put her down.
“Judgemental c***s like you’s are not needed right now.
“Hey we will defend our mate all day coz we know her.”
Kayley Ketley and Latia Henderson will next appear in court at Campbelltown on April 7.
