A VICTORIAN man has died in hospital after allegedly being stabbed then left in a burning home last week.

A VICTORIAN man has died in hospital after allegedly being stabbed then left in a burning home last week.

Graham Stevenson, 79, was pulled from his house in Clifton Springs, near Geelong, by firefighters about 11.30pm on Thursday.

When CFA crews arrived at the Bunganowee Drive property he had allegedly already been assaulted by another Clifton Springs resident.

Nine News reported Mr Stevenson was attacked with a barbecue fork and suffered burns to his back and legs.

Mr Stevenson was flown the to the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne with serious injuries to his upper body and burns to his back and legs. He battled his injuries for two days before dying late on Sunday, reported the Herald Sun.

Police have charged his neighbour Stuart McKnight, 45, with arson, aggravated burglary, assault with a weapon and other offences including attempted murder.

He will appear in the Geelong Magistrates Court this morning.

Police allege the two men had been drinking together on Thursday night and a fight broke out.

A neighbour told Nine that police had been called to the property “on a number of occasions” in the past.
